Study Documents Stress/Anxiety Among Family Caregivers
Eight out of 10 people in charge of caring for a relative suffer from anxiety and stress regardless of their socio-demographic variables. Families, and particularly daughters, assume the care of dependent elderly and chronically ill people in most cases. The study was conducted in 2009 by Ruth M Calero Perez and published in the Journal of Gerontology. The study results show that in some cases family caregiving creates inappropriate behavior in the relationship and that the negative effects on the physical, psychological and social health of the caregiver are highly related to previous life history between the caregiver and the care recipient. Social isolation and lonliness were commonly reported by the caregiver.
